Teoma - Search Engine Tips & Information
Specific "Quick Search Tips" for Teoma.
|
General
|
Teoma is a new generation search engine (debuting in Spring 2001)
. It's name derives from the Gaelic word for "expert".
Teoma determines its
results by ranking a site based on its subject-specific popularity (the number
of Web pages about the subject that reference this page) as well as its general
popularity (the number of all the Web pages that reference this page). It also
identifies and displays naturally existing hyper-linked communities of expert
sites. Thus, Teoma's search results are not only relevant but also more
authoritative.
There are 3 types of search results returned from Teoma:
1. Results: the left column of Teoma's result page gives authoritative pages relevant to the search terms.
2. Refine: a list of suggestions to narrow your search.
Here, Teoma organizes sites into naturally occurring communities that are about the
subject of each search query. This allows you to narrow or sharpen your search.
3. Resources: link collections from experts and enthusiasts.
These sites feature lists of other authoritative sites and links relating to the
search topic.
