Open Directory Project (ODP) - Search Directory
Specific "Quick Search Tips" for the Open Directory Project.
General
|
The Open Directory Project (ODP) is the largest, most comprehensive
human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast,
global community of volunteer editors. The Open Directory powers the core directory services
for the Web's largest and most popular search engines and portals, including Netscape Search,
AOL Search, Google, Lycos, HotBot, DirectHit, and hundreds of others.
Netscape administers it as a non-commercial entity, and is committed to the
keeping it a free and open resource via its social contract
with the Web community.
The ODP is also known as DMOZ, an acronym for Directory Mozilla. This name
reflects its loose association with Netscape's Mozilla
project, an Open Source browser initiative.
